In spring 2013, the wonderful Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams Books, will publish my first novel for children. GENIE WISHES is a story about fifth grade—highs, lows, and hamster erasers—as seen through the eyes of the class blogger, Genie. The book contains Genie’s first-person narration, her blog entries, and her (my) illustrations.
I've just completed work on my second book, BROOD, a literary novel set in Baltimore in May and June of four 17-year cicada emergences: 2004, 1987, 1970, and 1953. The story begins just before the emergence and concludes soon after, with the narration passed among six different characters. The novel is on submission now.
