The Unexpected

As I said in my recent radio essay* on WYPR, Baltimore's NPR affiliate, creative ideas can take you to unexpected places. Watching them develop is part of the pleasure--and mystery--of any creative project. Even this mundane little video (shot a few mornings ago in my living room, in celebration of a heat wave's merciful end) went in a direction I didn't expect. I lifted my camera to film the billowing drapes. The surprise was the sucking-in at the end--and then the closing punctuation by a passing car.

*The segment was part of the Maryland Humanities Council's great "Humanities Connection" series.
