Celebrating Sendak

HUNGER MOUNTAIN, the literary journal of the Vermont College of Fine Arts, has just published a group tribute to the late Maurice Sendak. If you'd like to read the thoughts of various writers (me included, about halfway through the set) about Sendak and his work, you can do so here.
You know those essays where you're asked to name three (or four, or five) people--living or dead--with whom you'd like to eat a meal? Sendak's going on my list. I loved the interviews he did with Stephen Colbert recently. He was smart, singular, and crotchety--three of my favorite qualities in a person.
Until that meal, IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN waits on my desk.
