About

A.K.A. GENIE WISHES, my debut middle-grade novel, will be published by Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams Books, in spring 2013. I’ve just completed work on my second book, a literary/mainstream novel entitled BROOD. I also write shorter pieces: fiction, essays, poems, and the like.
Born in Baltimore, I studied literature and writing at Brown, then Hopkins (B.A.), then Georgetown (M.A.). I spent years as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader in Washington, DC, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Now I live back in Baltimore with my family, including my 12-year-old son, Jackson, who of course was a close advisor on A.K.A. GENIE WISHES. We have two dogs.
Speaking of dogs, someone recently asked me to name the oddest thing that ever happened to me. That's easy. In seventh grade, I was cast as Nana, the dog, in my middle school's production of Peter Pan, even though I had not auditioned. Let me repeat. I was cast as the dog. Without having auditioned.
The delightful Marissa Walsh of FinePrint Literary Management represents me.
